Toronto condo adopts Parisian style

A one-bedroom condominium in Yorkville, one of Toronto’s most prestigious neighborhoods, has been transformed into a Parisian-inspired retreat. According to interior designer Dvira Ovadia, the client, a single mother of three, wanted a refined and timeless space that felt quietly luxurious.

The design team focused on maximizing light and perceived scale, despite the compact footprint. Ovadia notes that thoughtful material selections, strategic lighting, and subtle layout adjustments were used to create a sense of generosity in the space.

One of the biggest challenges was reworking the ceiling to accommodate a new lighting plan. The condominium’s concrete ceilings made it difficult to add additional lighting, so the team dropped the ceiling by 2.5 inches to install ultra-slim pot lights.

This decision allowed for a clean and intentional lighting design, which was essential to the overall aesthetic of the space. The use of beautiful stone and carefully considered finishes also brought depth and character to the space.

The project team had to work within strict regulations that often accompany luxury condominium renovations. With a tight timeline, they had to carefully coordinate every step to ensure that nothing was compromised, both in terms of design and execution.

However, Ovadia notes that the final installation was a completely different moment. Once the furniture, art, mirrors, custom drapery, and rugs were layered in, the space truly came to life in a way that drawings and construction alone can’t fully capture.

The space suddenly felt complete, warm, and deeply personal. The client was absolutely thrilled with the result, which exceeded expectations. The combination of Ovadia‘s design expertise and the client’s vision created a unique and intimate space that reflects the duality of the neighborhood.
