CHEG Architecture designed the rooms to accommodate different furniture arrangements and activities, allowing the house to adapt to the family’s changing needs.

CHEG Architecture renovated Pomegranate House for a young family, aiming to create a home that balances their busy lifestyle with calm, relaxing spaces. The renovation features a playful chalkboard wall, a folding room divider, and a redesigned staircase with concealed storage.

The chalkboard wall is a key feature, giving children a space to draw and write freely. A circular opening and a sliding timber panel allow for flexibility in the layout.

The sliding panel can be positioned to open or close the adjoining passage, introducing a geometric detail to the simple wall. This combination supports play while allowing the layout to be adjusted as needed.

A full-height folding partition is another notable feature, allowing the interior space to be divided or opened up. When closed, the panels form a continuous wall, creating a separation between areas without a permanent partition.

CHEG Architecture designed the rooms to accommodate different furniture arrangements and activities, allowing the house to adapt to the family’s changing needs. The folding wall is part of a wider approach to flexibility in the renovation.

The redesigned staircase presented a challenge due to the restricted space. CHEG Architecture found a solution that combines open timber treads with a perforated black metal screen, creating a visually open staircase with concealed storage beneath it.

The storage doors form a series of white panels that blend into the adjoining curved wall, keeping the storage largely out of sight. Opening the cabinet doors reveals shelving fitted into the angled space beneath the steps, making use of an awkward area while addressing the restrictions of the existing house.

These three features demonstrate how the renovation balances the family’s need for calm, organized interiors with spaces that can change and encourage play. The result is a home that supports the family’s busy, active lifestyle while providing relaxing spaces. CHEG Architecture’s design achieves this balance, creating a home that meets the family’s needs.

The family can now enjoy their new home, which offers a range of flexible and adaptable spaces. The chalkboard wall, folding room divider, and redesigned staircase all contribute to a home that is both functional and enjoyable. The renovation has created a sense of calm and relaxation, while also providing opportunities for play and creativity.
