Bake Off Returns to Historic Berkshire Estate for Series 17

The Great British Bake Off is filmed at Welford Park, a Berkshire estate. The Grade I listed Queen Anne house, built in the 17th century, has been in the same family since 1618. This historic estate, nestled in the Lambourn Valley, was once a medieval monastery before becoming a private deer-hunting lodge for Henry VIII during the Dissolution of the Monasteries, showcasing its rich and varied past.

The show has been filmed here since 2014, but the iconic white tent has not always been based at Welford Park. In its early days, the show moved around the UK, before pitching up at Valentine’s Mansion in Essex and Somerset’s Harptree Court. During the pandemic, the show temporarily relocated to Down Hall Hotel, demonstrating its adaptability before returning to the familiar grounds of Welford Park.

Welford Park boasts a five-acre snowdrop display in February, and by the time filming begins in spring, the land is lush and green. This picturesque setting provides the perfect backdrop for the show’s lively hosting duo, Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond, to deliver their signature humor and wit.

Series 17 of The Great British Bake Off premieres Tuesday, September 22, at 8 pm on Channel 4.
